About the forum:

Researchers at UBC’s Okanagan campus are investigating watershed management issues, aquatic ecosystems and the role water plays in natural processes, agriculture, recreation, and urban development. As part of our continued support of the Leading Edge Endowment Fund (LEEF) BC Regional Innovation Chair in Water Resources and Ecosystem Sustainability (Dr. John Janmaat) and the Endowed Research Chairs in Watershed Management (Dr. David Scott and Dr. Adam Wei), we are pleased to present the first of two annual Community Water Forum events that will take place in the fall and spring. The forum is designed to provide an opportunity for open, solution-oriented dialogue on topics of shared interest and concern to the community.

About the presentation:

Factors including climate change, population growth, urbanization and extreme events like droughts, water pollution, new regulations and aging infrastructure are compelling water utilities to manage their assets and services differently.

Join Dr. Rehan Sadiq, Associate Dean of UBC Okanagan’s School of Engineering, for an engaging presentation on the importance of thinking about the urban water cycle holistically vs. focusing on its individual segments. This “one water” strategic approach to managing water infrastructure in urban environments has become a guiding principle for many international organizations.

Dr. Sadiq’s presentation on Performance Assessment and Benchmarking of Water Infrastructure will help contextualize the one-water approach for small to medium-sized municipalities working in a regional setting.
