This 1 day course is designed for the small system operator who is responsible for or will be responsible for the operation of a hypo-chlorinator. The program covers the basic aspects of hypo chlorination.

Broken into three modules:

  • Basic principles and concepts
  • Math
  • Hands on pump maintenance, trouble shooting, repairs and residual monitoring devises.

This course highlights the importance of disinfection and the monitoring process, concepts of chlorination, the types of hypo chlorites as well as safety and handling practices. The math will be a refresher of basic volume calculations then build into dilution factors and concentration calculations.

Operators will have access to a variety of hypo-chlorinators.

Description:

Beginning in 2010, BCWWA requires all certified Backflow Assembly Testers to re-certify every 5 years. This Recertification program meets the requirements of the BCWWA and provides existing certified testers the opportunity to ensure that are up to date with the latest testing procedures and current reference materials such as AWWA Canadian Cross Connection test requirements, plumbing code and local bylaw changes. This 10 hour course includes:

Current Test Procedure review

  • RP
  • DCVA
  • PVB
  • SRPVB
  • New forms, common errors

Summary of applicable standards as of the date of the course delivery

  • CSA
  • Canadian Cross Connection Manual
  • Plumbing Code (building code)
  • Current AWWA Canadian CCC tester certification policies

This course is followed by a BCWWA Tester Recertification examination session which includes the practical and written examination.

The exam typically starts at Noon on the last day.

Mechanical Restraint and Casing Spacer Training @ City of Nanaimo, Public Works Meeting Room

The use of Mechanical Restraint on PVC, Ductile Iron , HDPE, and Steel pipes has grown exponentially in our Municipal industry with more Utilities now preferring good Mechanical Restraint instead of concrete thrust blocks.

This course will review the history of the growth and today’s newer broader supply of many methods of restraining flanges on pipes and restraining pipe fittings of all types on PVC , Ductile Iron , HDPE and Steel pipes.

The design of mechanical restraint will be taught, allowing the operator to determine easily how many pipe joints should be restrained .

The proper installation methods for each type will be explained , and this will be followed be every operator installing restrainers on various pipes , with proper use of torque wrenches and where they are needed.

There are some confusing terms in the industry of casing spacers – We will explain the differences and how many types there are to show the difference between Restrained Casing Spacers , and Casing Spacers that are restrained!

Operators will get 0.3 CEUs for completion of this training!

Please note: Anyone attending will need to sign in at the front office, a High Vis Vest has to be worn to cross the property to the meeting room.

This 4.5 day course combines the introductory and second level water distribution disciplines, providing the basic knowledge and advanced appreciation of water distribution practices. The course is followed by an EOCP examination for categories such as Water Distribution OIT, Level 1 or 2.
